Bottom line: the BYD Song Plus — the plug-in hybrid SUV that heads China’s export volume — prices at RMB 135,800–175,800 (MSRP, China) against AED 119,900–144,900 (official GCC retail) in the UAE. Converted at the September 2026 rate, that is a documented price spread of ≈1.62× at the base trim and ≈1.51× at the top trim, official retail versus official retail. Even UAE listings of 2024 export-spec units (from AED 94,000 ≈ RMB 172,200) sit at the level of China’s top MSRP.
Why this model
We track the Song Plus rather than the BYD Seal because the sources are stronger on both ends: the Song Plus DM-i is BYD’s highest-volume SUV in the export trade, its February 2025 smart-driving-edition MSRPs are documented in Chinese industry press, and its UAE retail prices are carried by multiple established price databases under the same nameplate (in Australia the same car sells as the Sealion 6, which gives us a third documented market). The Seal’s overseas pricing is thinner by comparison.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| China | Song Plus DM-i 智驾版 (5 trims, 75KM豪华–160KM旗舰PLUS) | RMB 135,800–175,800 | MSRP | BYD launch event of 2025-02-10, via Xchuxing |
| UAE | BYD Song Plus 2026 (GCC spec) Comfort | AED 119,900 | Official distributor retail list | Cartea UAE price listing; DriveArabia corroborates “from AED 119,900” |
| UAE | BYD Song Plus 2026 (GCC spec) Premium | AED 144,900 | Official distributor retail list | Cartea UAE price listing |
| UAE (context) | 2024 export-spec units already listed in UAE (Honor Champion Flagship etc.), from | AED 94,000 ≈ RMB 172,200 | Dealer listing (export-spec stock) | Cartea sale listings, accessed 2026-09-05 |
| Australia (context) | BYD Sealion 6 Essential (same nameplate, local name) | AUD 42,990 drive-away ≈ RMB 207,900 | Official drive-away retail | Drive.com.au pricing, accessed 2026-09-05 |
Documented price spread: China base MSRP RMB 135,800 vs UAE base AED 119,900 (≈RMB 219,700) → ≈1.62×; China top MSRP RMB 175,800 vs UAE Premium AED 144,900 (≈RMB 265,500) → ≈1.51× (derived 2026-09-05). The Australia context row lands at ≈1.53× against the same Chinese base MSRP — three markets, one consistent story: the Song Plus retails overseas at roughly one-and-a-half to one-and-two-thirds of its Chinese MSRP.
Scope notes: the Chinese prices are MSRPs from the February 2025 launch; Chinese dealer discounts of RMB 10,000–20,000 were being reported later in 2025, which would widen, not narrow, the spread. The UAE rows are official 2026-model-year GCC retail list prices. The AED 94,000 row is a different animal — 2024-built export-specification stock already sitting in UAE dealer listings — and is shown as trade-flow evidence, not merged into the spread calculation.
FX rate used
FX record: AED/CNY 1.8322 (USD/CNY 6.7289, USD/AED pegged 3.6725) and AUD/CNY 4.8366, both dated 2026-09-05, source Exchangerate-API (open.er-api.com, updated 2026-09-05 00:02 UTC). The AED is dollar-pegged; the Australian dollar is not, so the Australia row moves with both currencies.
Scope and methodology
- China price = MSRP for the 2025 smart-driving edition (智驾版), five trims, as reported from BYD’s 2025-02-10 launch event. MSRP is a reference price, not a transaction record.
- UAE price = official distributor retail list for the 2026 GCC line-up (Cartea, corroborated by DriveArabia). New-car list, not a negotiated invoice.
- Price types are never mixed: MSRP, official GCC retail, dealer listings of export-spec stock, and Australian drive-away pricing each carry their own row, label and date.
- Drive-away prices (Australia) include on-road costs and promotions; they are intentionally kept in a context row rather than the headline spread.
The cost stack a buyer still pays on top of the China price
- UAE import duty — 5% on CIF value under the GCC common tariff (a rate, not a cost share; the official retail price already embeds it, and this list is non-exhaustive).
- VAT (5%) — on the duty-paid value; roughly 10% of CIF in total, depending on the taxable base.
- Shipping — RoRo or container from a Chinese port to Jebel Ali/Mina Rashid or similar, plus handling.
- Inspection and documentation — China-side used-car export inspection report and licence paperwork; UAE-side customs clearance.
- Specification compliance — GCC-spec cooling, lighting and software localization; China-spec units need modification and may not qualify for full local support.
- Dealer margin, finance and warranty — the official UAE channel embeds distribution margin and factory warranty; parallel routes replace both with the buyer’s own risk.
- Registration, insurance and FX — final registration costs and movement on the CNY leg between invoice and payment (see FX record) — among others.
Why the spread exists
Volume-car economics: the Song Plus is not a scarcity product, so the overseas premium is essentially the cost of getting, homologating and warrantying the car in-market — duty, logistics, distribution margin — rather than a supply-rationing premium like the flagship NEVs’. China’s domestic price war: the February 2025 smart-driving edition added ADAS kit while holding MSRPs at RMB 135,800+, which mechanically raises every overseas ratio. A stable official channel: BYD’s UAE retail operation prices transparently, which is exactly why this model makes a good watchlist item — the spread moves with policy and FX, not with market chaos.
What a buyer should verify before paying
- Which price you are comparing. Official UAE retail, export-spec dealer listings and Chinese MSRPs are different markets; pick one pair and stay in it.
- Trim-to-trim mapping. “Comfort” and “Premium” do not correspond one-to-one to the Chinese 75KM/160KM trims; equipment differences sit inside the spread.
- Model year and stock location. The AED 94,000 export-spec listings are 2024-built units — a different warranty and history profile from a 2026 GCC car.
- Date of the comparison. Chinese MSRPs were cut into and discounted through 2025; quotes older than a quarter do not describe this market.
